Who is to blame in the hostage drama

It was an alarming event not only in our country but entire world because of the hostage taking happened in August23, 2010 at Rizal Park, Manila. A former senior inspector Rolando Mendoza hijacked a tour bus carrying 25 tourist from Hongkong in an attempt to get his job back. The hostage taking last for 11 hours which has a tragic end to death of eight hostages and nine other people were injured. Mendoza also died after the police shoot him. The big issue now is that who is to blame in the hostage drama. The media, ombudsman, PNP and swat team or the president?

PNP and swat team
Many people would say they have no planned tactic despite the fact that they are too many. Just think of the equipment they used in rescuing particularly the nylon rope in opening the door of the bus. They have wasted their time instead they must use a chain, much better. Why did they also throw and throw tear gas, don’t they think of life of people inside the bus? What they did is assume that all people inside are dead. Maybe their mind is focused on the hostage taker but he has complete equipment. The PNP has no unity, they just depend on what they know to do. Some also of the police think of their popularity in media, imagine you would see few of them seems acting. Why did they kill the hostage taker, if that’s their plan they should did it earlier for no life sacrificed. Who will take or pay now the crime?

Media
First they air the arresting of the hostage takers brother which made him get angry. Some would say that it shouldn’t have been Mendoza’s plan but because of what he witness on the TV inside the tour bus it went wrong and much worst. They cover also the crime from the beginning until the end, haven’t they thought that there is TV inside the bus where the hostage taker can see? They also blame media for it became the source why the hostage taking was known in the whole world. Yes duty is duty, to provide information for the people to know what’s happening but it becomes the source of conflict.

Ombudsman
He disallowed Mendoza’s demand to be reinstated in the police. Mendoza was stripped of retirement benefits and worst is he was disqualified from holding any position in the government. This is what the hostage taker is complaining, he was summarily dismissed without the opportunity to defend himself and no proper study of the case against him. He wants also fear hairing because as you can see the case is not well reviewed. This is what the ombudsman failed to do, no proper decision.

The president
Some say he didn’t do any move to stop the crime and seems doesn’t care for lives of innocent people. He put his trust to the PNP and seems neglected what’s happening. Yes he used his power as president but just to command and command without doing also his job. After the crime what did he do? Apology, theres already a dirt mark on Filipinos being hospitable. His mistake also is blaming the media knowing the fact that it is under his control.
For you, who is to bame?

Will i will be able to graduate?

Graduation is the most awaited event in the life of a student. It signifies ones achievement or success in education. This is where you will say “yes! I made it”. Despite of those struggles and barriers that hinder you to be what you want. It is where parents will see the fruit of their labor and sacrifices just to let their child be educated. If you’ll ask me, will I will be able to graduate?
My answer is yes I can. This is one of my goal in life to graduate to the course where I am called. I’ve been dreaming this for a long time which I believe I am already near to achieve it. The following reasons will prove that I can graduate this coming may 2011.First, I have no back subject, I finished all the subject required for BEED student to enroll. I have only FS 5 and FS 6 and educ 23 and 24 for me to enroll if I will pass in all my subjects in this first trimester. So far my record here in UC is okay. Second, why will I study if I will not graduate? Meaning you study for you to graduate whatever course you take. Third, it is also time for me to repay the hardships and sacrifices of people who inspires and supported me since I enter in pre-school until nearly finishing my course most especially my parents. Graduating will fulfill the happiness which I can give to my family. That’s why they said to me, eventhough we have many dept which you use as long as we see you marching on stage during graduation day that’s already a big payment for us. “That’s what we dream for you, to be able to graduate and have a work for you not to experience the same experience we had” they said. Lastly, for me to see the fruit of what I’ve done for 3 years stay in UC. For me to see the sacrifices I’ve done in submitting and accomplishing requirements which made me better person. To see the rewards of enrolling BEED as my course at university of cordilleras. Having no enough sleep during exams and making requirements. Escaping meals if I’m in school especially when I’m rushing and busy doing something. Sometime sharing and copying answers to my classmates during quizzes and activities and many more bad and happy experiences.
So will I will be able to graduate? The answer is YES U CAN, for as long as I will do my part as a student.

Sruggles in my field observation

I go home late during Tuesday and Thursday and woke-up early during Monday,Wednesday and Friday. This becomes my routine every school day starting when I am already conducting my observation in UC laboratory school. I wake up 4:00 in the morning to prepare all the things I need and prepare myself in going to the site of observation.Time management is a big deal because you have to be in UCLS before 7:30am that’s why most of the time I was rushing because of far location of our boarding house to the site of observation. After riding from the jeepney I had to walk for at least 10-15 minutes.Despite of this problem, when you arrived in the school you will meet those sweet smiles of pupils and teachers saying good morning and some pupils will hug you.
I experienced struggles during our first shift of observation where I was assigned in grade v-charity.First the critic teacher is hard to deal with. Most of the time he is moody that is why his advisory class is afraid to him because on the way he discipline them and by his face alone. One time also accidentally he check my observation sheet and he read something negative I observed to him, what he did is that he let me erase that. Of course I'm nervous that time because of his reaction, but I think what he did is not good. What do he want to place all positive about him?I'm not already an effective observer if that’s the case because as an observer,it should always be balanced you write whether negative or positive as long as it is true.We find hard also finding him if it is already our time-out to let him sign the DTR. Next is the grade v pupils, most of them are undisciplined, they don’t follow our instruction. They are playful and seems still in grade I. We hear also murmers from the like “student teacher ka lang”,may be this is one reason why they don’t obey us.
In our second shift,I was assigned to cute pupils of grade I- hope. Comparing to the grade V,I think grade I are more disciplined, they are respectful and obey directly our commands. Its just that we do many task but its enjoyable. The only problem is one pupil who has ADHD. He is very hard to deal with, most especially when his disorder attacks “sinusumpong”. He is moody,he insist on what he wants to do.Most of the time he hurt his classmates including her teacher. That is why I have to sit beside him and be keen in all his moves.Being observer of this pupil, you should be patient and temper your anger.Lastly in grade I we need to guide the pupils in everything they do.
Despite of this struggles I experienced, this shape me on how to become an effective and efficient teacher someday. I gained many insights like techniques and strategies which I can use in my future career. This served as my training ground for future teaching.

Tecnology: bane or boon to education

Imagine you are a teacher and it so happen that you are assigned in a school where everything is raw. Do you think you can teach effectively and efficiently there?

First let us take a look at what is technology. According to educators, technology is the application of science like those electrical gadgets and machineries. So when it comes to technology in education, it is technology plus the strategies, teaching materials the teacher itself.

Technology is a blessing for man. With technology, there is a lot that we can do which we could not do then. With cellphones, webcam, you will be closer to someone miles and miles away. So far yet so close! That is your feeling when you talk through a cell phone to a beloved who is far away from you. Just think of the many human lives saved because of speedy notifications via cellphones. Just think of how your teaching and learning have become more novel, stimulating, exciting and engaging with the use of multimedia in the classroom. With your TV, you can watch events as they happen all over the world.

Technology contributes much to the improvement of the teaching-learning process and to the humanization of life. From the constructivist’s point of view, educational technology serves as learning tools that learners learn with. Yes, it’s true because the instruction can be more interesting and learning becomes more interactive. For example is your topic in science is about solar system instead of letting students imagine about it, let them watch films(discovery movies) explaining solar system in that you make a topic interesting plus there is better understanding and retention of what they had learned. On the part of a teacher, the length of time required for instruction can be reduced, why? Instead of writing and writing everything the notes on the board, she can use OHP or PowerPoint presentation. Another one, instead for a teacher doing much effort on computing manually the grades, there is already computer you just input data, Isn’t it easy? Basing from my examples I can say that technology is also our partner in learning process.

However, when not used properly, technology becomes a detriment to learning and development. Think the students that instead of surfing the internet for research, projects and assignments, they are addicted to games in the computer and the worst is the surfs the Internet for pornographic scenes. As a result he will have trouble with his development. The abuse and misuse of the internet will have for reaching unfavorable effects on his moral life. The teacher who schedules class tv viewing for the whole hour to free himself from a one-hour teaching and so can engage in “tsismis”, likewise will not benefit technology. Neither will her class truly benefit from the whole period of tv viewing.

So is technology boon or bane to education? It depends on how we use technology. If we use it to help our students and teachers become caring, relating, thinking, reflecting and analyzing and feeling beings, them it is a boon, a blessing. But if we abuse and misuse it and so contribute to our ruin and downfall and these of other persons, it becomes a bane.

Technologies are invented with a certain purpose. In the context of a classroom it is the teacher who determines how technology ought to be used in order to reap the maximum benefits that came with technology.

Role as a future teacher

Education is the key to success. It serves as the means to bring about the desired change in society, to develop a generation of virtuous individuals and thus contribute to the development of good human beings. This is the main reason why I take up education. To educate myself and educate other people. For me to apply what I had learned in school. As a second parent I want to be a light that directs every student in attaining their goals in life.Even though the salary is low,Im proud that I take this course because ''teachers jobs worth is not measured on what salary they receive but measured on how many lives they touch''.You will not be rich in teaching but you will be rich in the experiences and knowledge you impart to every students. Most especially when you will see the fruit of your sacrifices to your students like they will come to you and thank because they already graduate. As the say teaching is the noblest profession.Because in teaching it needs a lot of patience,in every action you make you should first think of it.In addition it is the most respected profession beacause you cannot graduate from any course if theres no teachers. That is why whenever they ask me if whats my course im proud saying EDUCATION.
As a future teacher also my main goal is not to create my own replection, image and likeness.Meaning I wont let my students experience those experiences I pass on, most especially those negative ones.If I experienced scolded, whipped, and punished I will not use my future students to revenge on.Because I observe nowadays that teachers do this like one of my teacher in college admit it that sometimes he let her students feel those bitterness she experienced from her teachers before which is wrong.
As a teacher you will be the most influential person in the life of students and might be the person they can trust rather than their parents.
This is a huge responsibility that as a future educator I must be able to handle most especially that I will handle elementary students.Because you will see children debating with their parents about what they have learned in school. They will say'this is what my teacher teach'.

Roles of a teacher is not static; it can change day to day. When you are in the field you will not only be a teacher, you will become a parent, councilor and many more.Flexibility is a must for us to be an effective and effecient teacher. For me to attain these things I must consider this characteristics of a good teacher.Mastery of the subjectmatter, understanding the learner, apply different techniques and strategies in promoting learning and
to have a professional development programs to assure success of my students. For I am going to teach for others to understand.
