Will i will be able to graduate?

Graduation is the most awaited event in the life of a student. It signifies ones achievement or success in education. This is where you will say “yes! I made it”. Despite of those struggles and barriers that hinder you to be what you want. It is where parents will see the fruit of their labor and sacrifices just to let their child be educated. If you’ll ask me, will I will be able to graduate?
My answer is yes I can. This is one of my goal in life to graduate to the course where I am called. I’ve been dreaming this for a long time which I believe I am already near to achieve it. The following reasons will prove that I can graduate this coming may 2011.First, I have no back subject, I finished all the subject required for BEED student to enroll. I have only FS 5 and FS 6 and educ 23 and 24 for me to enroll if I will pass in all my subjects in this first trimester. So far my record here in UC is okay. Second, why will I study if I will not graduate? Meaning you study for you to graduate whatever course you take. Third, it is also time for me to repay the hardships and sacrifices of people who inspires and supported me since I enter in pre-school until nearly finishing my course most especially my parents. Graduating will fulfill the happiness which I can give to my family. That’s why they said to me, eventhough we have many dept which you use as long as we see you marching on stage during graduation day that’s already a big payment for us. “That’s what we dream for you, to be able to graduate and have a work for you not to experience the same experience we had” they said. Lastly, for me to see the fruit of what I’ve done for 3 years stay in UC. For me to see the sacrifices I’ve done in submitting and accomplishing requirements which made me better person. To see the rewards of enrolling BEED as my course at university of cordilleras. Having no enough sleep during exams and making requirements. Escaping meals if I’m in school especially when I’m rushing and busy doing something. Sometime sharing and copying answers to my classmates during quizzes and activities and many more bad and happy experiences.
So will I will be able to graduate? The answer is YES U CAN, for as long as I will do my part as a student.

Sruggles in my field observation

I go home late during Tuesday and Thursday and woke-up early during Monday,Wednesday and Friday. This becomes my routine every school day starting when I am already conducting my observation in UC laboratory school. I wake up 4:00 in the morning to prepare all the things I need and prepare myself in going to the site of observation.Time management is a big deal because you have to be in UCLS before 7:30am that’s why most of the time I was rushing because of far location of our boarding house to the site of observation. After riding from the jeepney I had to walk for at least 10-15 minutes.Despite of this problem, when you arrived in the school you will meet those sweet smiles of pupils and teachers saying good morning and some pupils will hug you.
I experienced struggles during our first shift of observation where I was assigned in grade v-charity.First the critic teacher is hard to deal with. Most of the time he is moody that is why his advisory class is afraid to him because on the way he discipline them and by his face alone. One time also accidentally he check my observation sheet and he read something negative I observed to him, what he did is that he let me erase that. Of course I'm nervous that time because of his reaction, but I think what he did is not good. What do he want to place all positive about him?I'm not already an effective observer if that’s the case because as an observer,it should always be balanced you write whether negative or positive as long as it is true.We find hard also finding him if it is already our time-out to let him sign the DTR. Next is the grade v pupils, most of them are undisciplined, they don’t follow our instruction. They are playful and seems still in grade I. We hear also murmers from the like “student teacher ka lang”,may be this is one reason why they don’t obey us.
In our second shift,I was assigned to cute pupils of grade I- hope. Comparing to the grade V,I think grade I are more disciplined, they are respectful and obey directly our commands. Its just that we do many task but its enjoyable. The only problem is one pupil who has ADHD. He is very hard to deal with, most especially when his disorder attacks “sinusumpong”. He is moody,he insist on what he wants to do.Most of the time he hurt his classmates including her teacher. That is why I have to sit beside him and be keen in all his moves.Being observer of this pupil, you should be patient and temper your anger.Lastly in grade I we need to guide the pupils in everything they do.
Despite of this struggles I experienced, this shape me on how to become an effective and efficient teacher someday. I gained many insights like techniques and strategies which I can use in my future career. This served as my training ground for future teaching.

Tecnology: bane or boon to education

Imagine you are a teacher and it so happen that you are assigned in a school where everything is raw. Do you think you can teach effectively and efficiently there?

First let us take a look at what is technology. According to educators, technology is the application of science like those electrical gadgets and machineries. So when it comes to technology in education, it is technology plus the strategies, teaching materials the teacher itself.

Technology is a blessing for man. With technology, there is a lot that we can do which we could not do then. With cellphones, webcam, you will be closer to someone miles and miles away. So far yet so close! That is your feeling when you talk through a cell phone to a beloved who is far away from you. Just think of the many human lives saved because of speedy notifications via cellphones. Just think of how your teaching and learning have become more novel, stimulating, exciting and engaging with the use of multimedia in the classroom. With your TV, you can watch events as they happen all over the world.

Technology contributes much to the improvement of the teaching-learning process and to the humanization of life. From the constructivist’s point of view, educational technology serves as learning tools that learners learn with. Yes, it’s true because the instruction can be more interesting and learning becomes more interactive. For example is your topic in science is about solar system instead of letting students imagine about it, let them watch films(discovery movies) explaining solar system in that you make a topic interesting plus there is better understanding and retention of what they had learned. On the part of a teacher, the length of time required for instruction can be reduced, why? Instead of writing and writing everything the notes on the board, she can use OHP or PowerPoint presentation. Another one, instead for a teacher doing much effort on computing manually the grades, there is already computer you just input data, Isn’t it easy? Basing from my examples I can say that technology is also our partner in learning process.

However, when not used properly, technology becomes a detriment to learning and development. Think the students that instead of surfing the internet for research, projects and assignments, they are addicted to games in the computer and the worst is the surfs the Internet for pornographic scenes. As a result he will have trouble with his development. The abuse and misuse of the internet will have for reaching unfavorable effects on his moral life. The teacher who schedules class tv viewing for the whole hour to free himself from a one-hour teaching and so can engage in “tsismis”, likewise will not benefit technology. Neither will her class truly benefit from the whole period of tv viewing.

So is technology boon or bane to education? It depends on how we use technology. If we use it to help our students and teachers become caring, relating, thinking, reflecting and analyzing and feeling beings, them it is a boon, a blessing. But if we abuse and misuse it and so contribute to our ruin and downfall and these of other persons, it becomes a bane.

Technologies are invented with a certain purpose. In the context of a classroom it is the teacher who determines how technology ought to be used in order to reap the maximum benefits that came with technology.
